Net Zero Certification for Buildings

An incremental approach that enables any building that wants to reduce their emissions to get started and create a roadmap to get to zero.

Based on the industry-leading GHG Protocol, GNFZ certification demonstrates that buildings are designed, constructed and operated to net zero by removing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, generating more energy than they consume, saving more water than they use, reducing waste and positively impacting the physical, mental and social health of occupants.

An affordable, accessible and accelerated approach

  • Increase marketability, improve efficiency, identify value creation opportunities, reduce emissions and realize cost savings

  • Incremental process with multiple opportunities for recognition

  • Rating-system agnostic

  • Recognized by GRESB for points in the assessment process

  • No prerequisites – we meet buildings where they are

  • Helps companies achieve SBTi targets

  • Aligned with local & international ESG & green building regulations

  • Accelerate your progress and achieve net zero

Net Zero Certification for Buildings

GNFZ offers net zero certification at the Design, Construction and Operations stages

across the following categories: Energy, Emissions, Water and Waste.

Emissions

Net Zero Emissions is achieved when the annual Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions of a building is balanced with equivalent emissions removed or offset.

    • Register

    • Submit design documents to outline the steps the project plans to take to remove Scope 1, 2 & 3 (embodied) emissions during its operations

    • Review & certify

    • Register

    • Submit construction documents & plans to outline the steps the project will take to remove Scope 1, 2 & 3 (embodied) emissions during its operations

    • Review & Certify

    • Assess: Conduct an emissions assessment to calculate your Scope 1, 2 & 3 (embodied) emissions and receive an emissions assessment certificate

    • Plan: Draft a net zero plan, with GNFZ’s support, to transition to net zero and implement best-in-class strategies and receive a net zero plan certificate

    • Review & certify: Achieve net zero certification & submit annual documentation to maintain your net zero status

Water

Net Zero Water is achieved when a building’s annual water consumption is balanced with an equivalent amount of water replenished on-site or through alternative sources.

    • Register

    • Submit design documents to outline the steps the project plans to take to achieve net zero water during its operation

    • Review & certify

    • Register

    • Submit construction documents & plans to outline the steps the project will take to achieve net zero water during its operation

    • Review & Certify

    • Assess emissions: Conduct a water assessment to calculate the total water consumed and saved at your building

    • Create & submit net zero plan: Draft a net zero plan, with GNFZ’s support, to achieve net zero water and implement best-in-class strategies and receive a net zero plan certificate

    • Review & certify: Achieve net zero certification & submit annual documentation to maintain your net zero status

Waste

Net Zero Waste is achieved when the waste generated by a building is diverted from landfills through practices such as recycling, composting and reuse.

    • Register

    • Submit design documents to outline the steps the project plans to take to achieve net zero water during its operation

    • Review & certify

    • Register

    • Submit construction documents & plans to outline the steps the project will take to achieve net zero water during its operation

    • Review & Certify

    • Assess emissions: Conduct a waste assessment to calculate the total waste generated and reduced or avoided at your building

    • Create & submit net zero plan: Draft a net zero plan, with GNFZ’s support, to achieve net zero water and implement best-in-class strategies and receive a net zero plan certificate

    • Review & certify: Achieve net zero certification & submit annual documentation to maintain your net zero status

Energy

Net Zero Energy is achieved when a building’s annual energy consumption is balanced by renewable energy (on-site or off-site), resulting in the mitigation of Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

    • Register

    • Submit design documents to outline the steps the project plans to take to remove Scope 1 & 2 emissions during its operation

    • Review & certify

    • Register

    • Submit construction documents & plans to outline the steps the project will take to remove Scope 1 & 2 emissions during its operations

    • Review & Certify

    • Assess: Conduct an energy assessment to calculate your Scope 1 & 2 emissions and receive an emissions assessment certificate

    • Plan: Draft a net zero plan, with GNFZ’s support, to transition to net zero energy and implement best-in-class strategies and receive a net zero plan certificate

    • Review & Certify: Achieve net zero certification & submit annual documentation to maintain your net zero status

Who is working with GNFZ

SRK Exports / Surat, India

SRK Exports, one of the world’s largest diamond crafting companies and valued at more than $1.8 billion, had an initial goal of achieving net zero by 2030 and we helped them accelerate this a full six years early and achieve net zero in 2024.

Grupo Chufani / Querétaro, México

Grupo Chufani’s headquarters certification serves as a north star for anyone under the impression that achieving net zero is too time-consuming, expensive or confusing.

Alfa Sustainable Projects Ltd. / Israel

The certification of Alfa’s 200 sqm campus, which was built in the 1980s, proves that net zero goals and embracing renewable energy is not only better for the environment, but is also a more profitable business decision.
