Umesh Atre, LEED AP, WELL AP, Fitwell Ambassador is a seasoned sustainability professional with over 20 years of diverse project experience in India, Canada, and the United States. He currently serves as the Sustainability Lead at Parkhill, a multidisciplinary architectural and engineering design firm with offices in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Prior to joining Parkhill in early 2024, he held the position of Director of Sustainability at Studio8 Architects, where he led sustainable design efforts, green building consulting and in-house continuing credential education.
During his career, he has worked on over 100 green building certification projects. His primary interests include building energy modeling, daylighting, net zero, passive solar, embodied carbon analysis, and building energy codes. He has also assisted owner and developer clients in understating synergies between multiple certifications and rating systems, and in pursuing newer ratings like Fitwel for their mid-high-rise residential and commercial projects.
Some of Umesh’s project experience includes the award-winning LEED Platinum certified Austin Community College’s Rio Grande Campus, the LEED Silver and AEGB 2-Star rated Plaza Saltillo 5-block mixed-use (commercial, retail, & multi-family) development (Austin), the WELL v2 Silver (pursued) North Rim office development for UnitedHealth (San Antonio), AEGB 2-3 star ratings for 100+ retail/restaurant tenants at the Domain development (Austin), and the LEED Gold certified 100-acre campus (phase 1 completed) for a confidential technology provider client in Austin.
Umesh is a sought-after expert speaker and researcher and frequently presents on topics related to sustainable design at local and national conferences. He is recognized as an expert in sustainability in Texas and is frequently asked to provide peer reviews on upcoming changes to green building certifications and rating systems. As a GNFZ Advisor, Umesh will not only advise on the future evolution of the platform, but also help GNFZ grow the net zero movement.
He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Mumbai, India, and a Master of Science in Architecture (sustainability focus) from Texas A&M University, College Station. Umesh is currently based in Austin, Texas.
