Marcus Hazelwood is a dynamic leader in energy management with over 15 years of diverse project experience. As the Principal and Director of Building Optimization at EA Energy Solutions, Marcus is passionate about making buildings more energy-efficient and sustainable. His expertise spans commercial, mission-critical, higher education, and municipal systems, where he excels in guiding clients through energy audits, building simulations, benchmarking, green building certifications, measurement and verification, and commissioning efforts. Throughout his career, he has represented both the owner and designer perspectives bringing deep expertise in project management and project efficiencies.

Marcus's innovative approach has not only saved millions of dollars in energy costs but also unlocked substantial tax deductions, incentives, and rebates for his clients. His career journey includes pivotal roles as a project manager for three national engineering firms and as an Energy Analyst at Harvard University.

Driven by a vision to make sustainable best practices more attainable and practical for businesses, Marcus founded Haze Enterprises. Through this venture, he consults with organizations to achieve their sustainability goals with ease and efficiency.

After spending eight years on the East Coast helping organizations work toward ambitious net zero goals, Marcus has returned to his hometown in Ohio. He is eager to help position the Midwest towards more sustainable building design and operations. At EA Energy Solutions, Marcus is spearheading building optimization efforts, leveraging his deep knowledge in energy assessments, energy modeling and commissioning to help each project carve its unique path to success.

Marcus’s leadership extends beyond his professional roles. He has served as a Teaching Assistant for High Performance Buildings at Harvard Extension School and as an Instructor for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Courses with Half Moon US National. At Endicott College, he has taught Special Topics in Green Building, and he continues to contribute to the field as a Certified Energy Manager with the Association of Energy Engineers and a LEED Accredited Professional.

Marcus is passionate about advising companies to identify how to grow their portfolios and position for the long-term – while also identifying ways to enhance their energy efficiency. Understanding the lack of expertise and support many organizations have in-house to accomplish this, Marcus was drawn to GNFZ’s approach because of the incremental support GNFZ offers to clients looking to navigate the net zero transition.    As an Advisor to GNFZ, Marcus will leverage his energy management and project management expertise to enable greater client success.
