Alan Scott

Alan Scott, FAIA, LEED Fellow, LEED AP, CEM, WELL AP, is a highly accomplished facilitator, consultant, project manager and teacher, with more than 35 years of experience in architecture and sustainability in North and South America. 

He currently serves as the Director of Sustainability for Intertek’s Building Science Solutions team. Intertek is a global Total Quality Assurance Provider to industries worldwide with over 40,000 employees across 100 countries. The Building Science Solutions team leads new construction, renovation and retrofit projects – both large and small – to achieve green building certification. They also support healthy, sustainable, resilient, net zero and low carbon building projects in the design and construction phases and provide climate risk and resilience assessment; building enclosure consulting and analysis; building enclosure commissioning; and whole building air barrier testing.

Alan had demonstrated a lifelong commitment to green building with his vast experience boosting new and existing building performance, advancing decarbonization efforts, improving occupant wellness and fostering greater resilience. Alan has been working with the LEED rating system since the pilot version launched in 1998, where he led a study for the City of Portland. And as one of the first LEED APs in the world, he has consulted and managed the certification of dozens of LEED certified projects, including hospitality, office, higher educa􏰀on, mul􏰀-family residen􏰀al, and industrial. 

Alan also served as a member of the USGBC’s LEED Faculty for over eight years, teaching numerous LEED workshops throughout the Americas, and he supported the USGBC in the development of its standards. He currently serves on the LEED Indoor Environmental Quality Technical Advisory Group, as Vice-chair of the LEED Resilience Working Group, and as a member of the American Institute of Architects Resilience and Adapta􏰀on Advisory Group. He also serves on the CoDesign Collaborative Portland Board and volunteers his time on the boards of Solar Oregon and the Eco-School Network. 

As an Advisor to GNFZ, Alan will leverage his expertise and leadership in low-carbon, sustainable built environment projects, technical advisory experience, and making the case for decarbonized buildings to help GNFZ advance its mission, grow the network and evolve the GNFZ platform’s technical capabilities and certification offerings.
